Mateo was born to a wannabe gangster in Brooklyn. His father, Francis, was a drunk who gambled his life savings away until he was ten feet in debt with one foot in the grave and the other standing on Mateo's neck.He was quick to sell Mateo to the Italian mob located in NYC when Mateo was just fourteen in an effort to bring himself out of debt so he could continue gambling. It only took Mateo three weeks of working in a sweatshop for the mob for him to flee the scene.He was able to hitchhike to the Mexican border. His mother was a sweet, soft spoken woman who cared very deeply for her son and husband and his father—though never home because he worked—was very protective of his family. When he was seven, his Uncle Daniel’s involvement with the cartel backfired on his family. His mother was shot at point-blank range, his father was taken, and he was put into the foster care system.Marco was adopted by what looked like a loving family, but they only adopted him to have him work around the house. His foster father—Kade—would beat him bloody if he didn’t clean fast enough or if he didn’t do it efficiently. His foster mother—Hannah—would shrug it off. She refused to even cook for him, making him survive off of bread and butter to keep him weak. He was seventeen when he finally snapped and turned on his foster parents with a knife, stabbing Kade and narrowly missing Hannah.Despite the initial charge being in the first degree, it was dropped to second when the horrific treatment of Marco came to light in the court.
